Responding to questions over his company’s copycatting activity, Huang Yong, Yema Chairman, once said: "Imitating is a way of learning. In developing new cars, we follow a process of learning, imitating, and surpassing." Determined to bring some of the best auto design ideas to China, Yema has in recent years showcased lookalikes of Audi A4, Infiniti EX, Mazda5, Subaru Forester, Toyota Alphard, and VW Tiguan. At this year’s Chengdu motor show it presents an eye-catching two-door EV, the M72, which reminds many of Smart Roadster.

The pure-electric subcompact sits on a 2515mm wheelbase and is 3579mm long, 1790mm wide, and 1420mm tall. According to the official description, it has a top speed of 120km/h and driving range of 180km. No other specs have been given.

Four years ago a model also called "Yema M72" was exposed (as in pics below), said to be a hybrid. The pure-electric M72 seems to be a variant of the hybrid.

Yema is currently constructing a new vehicle factory in Mianyang, Sichuan, which is scheduled to open in 2014 for production of both EVs and passenger cars of the traditional type. The M72, according to a Yema official at the motor show, is to be featured in the product line at the Mianyang factory.
